Introduction
My name is Laura Kroncke and I graduated from Illinois State University in May 2011 with a degree in Secondary Education- Social Sciences. Post-graduation I worked at a high school in Chicago with the AVID program, and also at an alternative school part-time. It was in these settings where I discovered my passion for working with under-served students. I was confident that I wanted to dedicate my time and effort to serve the students of the city of Chicago, and that is why I joined AUSL.
Residency Year
This year I am a resident at Chicago Academy High School in Portage Park. I teach grades 9 and 10 in World History, Modern World History, and a Sophomore Seminar class focused on research skills and college preparation. Chicago Academy High School is 56% Hispanic, 23% Black, 18% White, 2% Asian, and 1.4% Multiracial. Students attend this school from all over the city of Chicago. Working at a diverse school has taught me about many cultures as well as how to build community in a classroom where students are coming from different places with different backgrounds.
