My Mission My mission as a teacher is to inspire and instill a passion for learning in my students. I hope to equip students with the skills necessary to be successful in college and post-college careers. By challenging students and pushing their thinking through higher-order questioning, I hope to develop critical thinking skills that students will use outside of my classroom. As an educator, I want to provide more to my students than just an education. I want to help students improve their communication, technological, speaking, and organizational skills. My Classroom In my classroom, I have high expectations for my students. Although I hold high expectations for my students, I scaffold material so that it is accessible for all students. I also use a lot of engaging activities to instill a passion for history and push higher-order thinking. To push higher-order thinking, I also use critical thinking tools such as comparison matrices, list-sort-labels, and inductive reasoning organizers. I strongly believe that a foundation of essential beliefs forms the base of a classroom followed by management and instructional strategies. I identify motivation as a key factor in my teaching that builds on the previous categories. I understand the implications of trying to do curriculum planning without the prior key structures in place. I have found by building on strengthening each category throughout the year, my curriculum planning has also improved. |

The poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling is featured in my classroom. Throughout the year, I have frequently referenced the line, "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors just the same..." This line in the poem is relevant to my teaching philosophy because I encourage students to work hard and learn that it's not all about winning or losing, but instead about the hard work and dedication along the way. |
