Stress Management When the AUSL program began and I had to balance coursework with lesson planning and teaching, I was not sure how I was going to balance my personal life with the heavy requirements. Throughout the year I have found a great support system in my cohort, and continue to do the things I am passionate for. There has to be a balance between work and personal life, and I am confident that the balance I experimented with this year will allow me to be successful in my first independent year in the classroom in the fall.

This year one of the biggest ways I combated the stress of graduate coursework and teaching was with my NLU cohort: C-4. We have become a very close-knit group who spends a lot of time together outside of the program. I found a great support system within this group of individuals, and we are always there to assist each other with personal problems or things related to teaching and graduate school. It is essential to have a network of people who are in the same situation as you so they understand and help you through it. After this school year ends, I am confident that we will continue to be a source of inspiration and strength for each other. |
Outside of managing stress through spending time with my cohort, I enjoy doing many things to maintain a regular life and clear my mind. I am a big fan of concerts and love the entertainment that Chicago has to offer. I also participate in many service projects and benefit walks such as the Hunger Walk for the Greater Food Depository that I participate in each year. My sister and I are close and spend time together hanging out and shopping. I also enjoy traveling and went on a cruise to the Bahamas over Spring Break this year. I am able to balance my personal life with teaching, and it helps me to remain calm through the emotional roller coaster that is teaching. |
