Service Projects and Extracurricular Activities
Service learning is a requirement for graduation at Chicago Public Schools, and I organized a service project to Alternatives, Inc. in Uptown for my students to participate in. Students were engaged in activities related to restorative justice and finding alternate solutions to discipline and issues within their school. As read in several of the students’ reflections, the trip provided them with the opportunity to find ways to make their schools and communities more peaceful places.

I was also involved in several service projects at my school. I assisted another teacher at my school with raising money for Leukemia and leading students on a 3-mile walk around the neighborhood. Many people in the neighborhood were involved in donating the money, and the money from the walk went to the Leukemia Foundation. Students that participated in the walk knew people with Leukemia, and expressed how the walk was important to them because the money would go to finding a cure.
